Due to the recent changes in the lifestyle of people, especially teenagers, Acidity is one of the most severe problems being faced by many, and not just senior citizens. With the rising stress levels and irregular unhealthy eating habits because of a busy lifestyle, many teenagers end up compromising on their health.

Acidity is one such problem faced in the initial stages of diet change. Acidity occurs when there is extra secretion of acids in the gastric glands of the stomach, giving you a burning sensation in the stomach, bad breath and difficulty in breathing. The main cause of acidity lies in between huge gaps amongst every meal, empty stomach, smoking and drinking or of excessive intake of caffeine in the form of tea or coffee.

When the secretion of acids is more extreme than usual, there is a feeling of heartburn which usually occurs due to high stress levels or when you overeat. At times, acidity can turn out to be quite annoying. Rather than opting for medications, it is always better and preferable to go for natural home remedies which are bound to give you instant relief.

Some of these natural home remedies include:

  • Basil Seeds – The soothing and carminative properties of Basil seeds gives you instant relief from acidity. Add 1 spoon of Basil seeds and 1 spoon of Lemon juice to a glass of water and gulp it down your throat.
  • Cumin Seeds – Working as a great acid neutraliser, cumin seeds or Jeera also aid in digestion and relieves stomach ache caused due to acidity. Hand-pounded Crush roasted Jeera should be added it to your water. Drink this water daily after every meal for best results.
  • Malva Nuts – Malva Nuts are acid neutralizing in nature and are known to relax the bowel movements of your stomach, especially constipation. Consume a soaked malva nut every day for restoring the mucosal living
  • Fennel – Rather than relying on excessive intake of tea or coffee, it is always advisable to consume a glass of fennel tea which helps in dealing with indigestion and bloating in stomach because of the various types of oil present in these seeds. If you’re not comfortable with preparing a tea, you can opt for chewing a handful of fennel after every meal.
  • Buttermilk – Often categorised as a sattvic food in Ayurveda, Buttermilk contains lactic acid which neutralizes the acidity in the stomach. Along with a glass of buttermilk, sprinkle a dash of black pepper and gulp this refreshing drink right after your meal.
  • Jaggery – Jaggery is a powerhouse of magnesium which helps in boosting the intestinal strength. It aids in digestion and also makes the digestive tract slightly more alkaline, thus preventing acidity. Chew a small piece of Jaggery along with your meals. Ginger – The age-old healthy tonic often recommended by almost all elders, ginger has amazing digestive and anti-inflammatory properties in them. In order to cure acidity, chew a small piece of ginger, or consume a spoonful of ginger juice 2-3 times a day. You can also add grated ginger to your cup of tea or simply steep grated ginger in a cup of boiling water, drink it before main meals.
  • Bananas – When it comes to health, bananas are often considered as one of the most healthy fruits. It consists of natural antacids which acts as a buffer in acid reflux. Eat one banana every day to prevent acidity.

While the above mentioned home remedies are easily available at your home, it is always advisable to maintain a healthy diet. Avoid drinking or smoking if you are prone to stomach ache, acidity or constipation.
